Holiday cottage bookings back to pre-covid levels with half-term discounts boost

With half-term holidays looming large, more travellers than ever are looking to holiday in the UK during the break according to industry insiders.

Constantly changing rules around travel, both at home and abroad, have seen people trying to minimise risks of delays or difficulties with a rise on UK bookings at holiday cottages, hotels and other staycation options.

Bookings for February half term for Sykes Holiday Cottages have exceeded pre-pandemic levels, according to the firm’s CEO with a survey of 1,000 holidaymakers saying 55% of them will continue with UK breaks this year.

UK cottage breaks with Sykes are up 158% on this time in 2021, with the company saying Whitby, Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere are the most popular destinations.

Graham Donoghue, CEO at Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “The staycation boom is here to stay.

“While bookings for February half-term have been record-breaking, we expect Easter and summer to be no different, and bookings are already coming in for autumn and winter thick and fast.

“Brits are looking to make the most of what our beautiful country has to offer and the self-catered option still appears to be a popular choice as contact with others can be limited.”
