Top 10 holiday destinations Brits are looking at for summer 2022

Holidays abroad haven’t exactly been on the cards for Brits this year, from the ban on travel to the traffic light system with a green list that isn’t particularly inspiring.

It’s therefore no surprise that bookings for summer 2022 are on the rise, as UK holidaymakers look to the future for their getaways.

New research from Skyscanner has offered an insider’s look at just what destinations are proving particularly popular – in fact, they’ve unveiled the top 10 destinations that are a hit for 2022, based on the places that have seen the most searches on the platform in recent weeks.

The USA is top of the list. Not only is Orlando the most searched for destination, but there are three other US destinations that have made the top 10 – New York, Miami and Las Vegas. (You can check out the full list below).

Orlando was revealed as Brits’ most searched for destination. The Florida hotspot has long been a firm favourite with families thanks to its plethora of theme parks, being home to both Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.

It’s a special year for Disney fans too as Walt Disney World is marking its 50th anniversary, and it’s going all out with 18 months of celebrations including ‘Beacons of Magic’ across all four of its theme parks.

In fact, you can now book a special 50th anniversary offer from £65pp a day which includes up to $950 Disney Dining Credit per room, Disney’s 14-day Ultimate Ticket for the price of a 7-day Ticket, and $200 Disney spending money on to a gift card to spend at the resort.

The US proved popular with four destinations in the top 10

Manchester was the second destination in the top 10 rankings, although it could be that this is an anomaly, with the airport serving plenty of international routes.

The third spot went to Bangkok, as Brits are looking to go back on Thailand holidays. The country is set to soon scrap quarantine rules for vaccinated tourists, although it is looking to reopen to travellers in phases.

From July 1, vaccinated tourists won’t need to quarantine if they’re visiting Phuket specifically. Mandatory quarantine will remain in place for arrivals to the rest of Thailand.

If the trial is successful, authorities are planning to roll it out to other hotspots such as Koh Samui in the coming month, with the whole of Thailand hoped to reopen to vaccinated travellers from October (although there could be restrictions in place for countries with Covid mutations).

It’s clear from the top 10 list that Brits are craving far-flung destinations, with seven of the 10 destinations being long-haul routes.

Bucket-list-worthy holidays are expected to be a huge trend in the coming years as people make up for lost time when travelling.

For example, cruise lines are already seeing a surge in bookings for once-in-a-lifetime journeys, including sailings of an average of 21 nights at sea.
